KUCHING: Twenty-four full high definition (HD) close circuit television (CCTV) placed at twenty-four strategic locations in the city have been installed with the aim of reducing street crimes and in accordance with the Government Transformation Programme (GTP).
This was mentioned by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor, Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap bin Haji Abang Julai during a media visit on CCTV project in the city at DBKU’s headquarters here yesterday.
“The 360 HD cameras and announcer speakers installed at the post are for the monitoring purpose and also to warn the public of their mischief such as vandalism, illegal waste dumping and other offences in the city,” he said.
Wahap also said the installation of CCTVs was to assure the safety of the public and to enhance the people’s confident towards local authorities and the police.
“The wireless CCTV can be recorded and kept as evidence for the law enforcement agency should crimes happen in an area,” he pointed out.
He said that CCTV system will be officially handed over to the council and a training session will be held with the police on 22 April.
Meanwhile, according to the Senior Project Manager of Kiwitech Sdn Bhd, Deen Wahad, the CCTVs are using Indigo Vision model from Scotland and Wireless Airaya from the United States of America (USA).
“The Network Video Recorder (NVR) model which is also from Indigo Vision can make a single recording up to 45 days in HD resolution.
“It will run for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week where the coverage for optical zoom is 150 metre radius. It can also reach 200 metre radius depending on the object size recorded,” Deen said.
The installation of the CCTV is a project allocated by Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government of Malaysia (KPKT) and will also be monitored by the police and DBKU.
The twenty-four CCTVs are located at Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, Kuching Waterfront, Cat Statue Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Padungan, Waterfront, Medan Pelita Lebuh Wayang, India Street, Kubah Ria/FAMA in front of T-junction, FAMA Car Park, Jalan Main Bazaar, Pearl Street, Jalan P.Ramlee, Jalan Gambir/Esplanade (car parking area), Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Padang Merdeka, Jalan Haji Taha, Jalan Kulas, Jalan Satok, Wisma Satok, Jaln Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce off Jalan Green, MASJA, Jalan Semariang, Pasar Tamu Satok, Samariang New Township and DBKU compound area.
